Join Jim Andrews, Lockheed Martin Sikorsky Aircraft Chief Engineer for Marine Corps Systems, for a walk through the development of the most advanced heavy lift helicopter in the world. Using the CH-53K as the backdrop, Jim will discuss the years of hard work and dedication that the development team put into creating it. The various job functions involved, the processes that they followed and the hurdles they overcame. Starting from the inception of the requirement, to its presence in the United States Marine Corps inventory. Learn about the rigorous System Engineering Technical Review process that was followed and the byproducts of each step. Progressing from over 125,000 design requirements, to a fully digital design and finally the assembly of over 60,000 parts into an aircraft designed to carry a 36,000 Lb. external load further than any other rotorcraft. Born from an all-digital design, the CH-53K was designed with supportability in mind. The lecture will also discuss the integrated health and usage monitoring system inherent on the King Stallion and the enhanced maintenance tools that are being employed to reduce the life cycle costs. The presenter will leave the audience with some final observations from his many years of participating on and leading the integrated vehicle development teams.
